Greystone allotments were provided by the local Council in September 2014. Since then, we have been successful in, firstly, obtaining funding for a purpose-built cabin to be used for meetings, etc. and this has been recently upgraded to include toilet and generator facilities. In addition, further funding was obtained for the planting of perimeter hedging to encourage wildlife and provide screening of the allotments.
The next addition consisted of a seating/community garden adjacent to the cabin. This was followed by a secure metal cabin for the storage of communal garden equipment.
Most recently, with the environment in mind, we obtained a grant to establish an orchard consisting of 45 trees, and the latest batch of funding was used to purchase a large polytunnel for the future use of all allotment holders.
All of the above will benefit the Greystone allotment holders well into the future. The main objective of the allotments is to promote a Grow Your Own ethos producing tasty vegetables through healthy exercise in the fresh air.
We support the use of peatfree compost in our allotments and are delighted with the donation of New Leaf Compost this year.
